We are proud to announce that we are officially one of a select group of primary-care affiliated teaching sites for Toronto Metropolitan University's School of Medicine. The new TMU School of Medicine is set to open its doors to the first group of Medical Residents on July 1, 2025 and the first class of medical students in September, 2025.
As a result of this achievement, we will regularly have Medical Doctors completing their specialty training in Family Medicine spend 8 months of their training at our clinic under the supervision of our medical team. In addition, there will be medical students rotating through the clinic gaining valuable experiences and exposures.
We are hopeful this will increase our capacity to care for our community, increase appointment availability and help in the long term goal of attracting and recruiting physicians to Shelburne and the surrounding communities.
During your appointment with your family doctor, you may be seeing a Resident doctor or medical student, supervised by one of our physicians.
Our first medical residents will join us in June, 2025 and will start seeing patients in July, 2025.
Family Medicine Resident - A Medical Doctor who has completed medical school and obtained their MD title. They are now training to specialize in family medicine which takes a minimum of 2 additional years. These Residents can assess, diagnose, treat, order tests and prescribe medications.
Medical Student - A learner currently enrolled in TMU's School of Medicine to complete a 4 year degree to become a Doctor of Medicine. They have already completed their undergraduate university studies. Medical School Training involves in class learning as well as thousands of hours of hands on clinical training.
Please welcome our Residents and medical students when you see them in clinic or in the community.
